Feed source pathogens impact livestock productivity, profitability and human food safety. Livestock producers increasingly specify microbial quality standards for feed, and feed ingredient manufacturers and millers implement strategies to mitigate risk of viruses and bacteria including Salmonella transmitting via feed.
Until now, those strategies have typically involved administering a feed sanitizer or organic acid feed acidifier at low application rates (1-2kg/MT) to the entire volume of selected finished feed, focusing most commonly on breeder, parent stock and unpelleted rations.
